Voltage
Stabiliser |

If you are getting erratic or unusually high or low
readings on your temperature or fuel gauges (essentially these are identical
instruments) it is highly likely that your voltage stabiliser is at fault.
On the SE5a this can be found under the bonnet next to the fuse box.
Replacements can be bought from Scimitar and classic car specialists, but
there is a better solution on the market that utilises modern semiconductor
technology and gives a constant 10v supply to your instruments, unlike the
original item which pulses 12v in an attempt to supply an average of 10v.
The result of fitting this replacement is a set of gauges giving consistent
readings irrespective of other electrical devices in use (ie. headlamps,
wipers etc) or climatic conditions.
